Kaliningrad (formerly Konigsberg) is the administrative center of the Kaliningrad region, is the largest and most visited city in the region.

In this regard, the majority of tourists, even those for whom Kaliningrad does not become the main place of stay in the Kaliningrad region, come first to Kaliningrad itself, and only then leave for the resorts of the region (Svetlogorsk, Zelenogradsk, Yantarny, Pioneer, Curonian Spit, etc.).
Nevertheless, spending time in Kaliningrad, even passing through for a couple of days, is undoubtedly worth it. There is something to see and where to go in the city.
For the convenience of sightseeing and trips around the region, in Kaliningrad it is best to choose a means of accommodation in the city center. But the center of Kaliningrad is quite extensive, therefore, the whole rest may depend on the choice of a hotel (or other accommodation facility) - walking distance to the main attractions, parks and lakes, and (or) train stations and stops for traveling around the region and beyond.
The bulk of Kaliningrad's accommodation facilities are represented by apartments (separate apartments with all amenities), there are also good hotels and more budget accommodation facilities - guest houses and hostels.

Fish Village and Kanta Island with Cathedral

The Museum of the World Ocean is one of the best and the largest museum in the city of Kaliningrad, which is a comprehensive marine museum.

Victory Square
Victory Square is the central square of the city and is located in the very center of Kaliningrad, which is very convenient for walking and traveling around the city.
There are three shopping centers around the square, the central market is located nearby, there are many cafes, restaurants and shops nearby, as well as the Kaliningrad-Severny railway station from which trains depart (and arrive) in the region, including to the resort towns of Svetlogorsk and Zelenogradsk.

Kaliningrad Zoo is one of the largest and oldest zoos in Russia.

Central Park
Central Park Kaliningrad is one of the favorite places for walking and relaxing in the city among local residents.
Many plants and trees that were planted in the pre-war years have been preserved in the park.

Amalienau district
Amalienau - former prestigious suburban quarter (district) Konigsberg, now part of the Central District of Kaliningrad.
Amalienau was known for its fashionable villas, which were built for the wealthy class of residents, had unusual and luxurious, at that time, decorations and exterior details.
In the area, the Poplavok pond (or Bread Lake) is especially noteworthy - a small pond along which the embankment runs, there are places for recreation, a playground and bridges across the channels of the pond are equipped.

Remark! At the expense of staying in Amalienau ... - it is better not to stop, since the area is located quite far from the other main attractions of Kaliningrad and has a less developed infrastructure, compared to the central places of the city. On the other hand, there is a more relaxed atmosphere in Amalienau than in the very center of the city.
It is better to visit Amalienau on a one-time basis: come or come on your own, or with an excursion. But here, as they say (as well as in the case of catering establishments listed in this article), "the taste and color ..." about which there is no dispute.
Upper Lake with Yunost Park and Maraunenhof district
The Upper Lake is a reservoir located in the center of Kaliningrad and is particularly popular for walking and recreation among citizens and guests of the city.
Around the lake there is an embankment for walking with places to relax, a bike path is laid, there are children's and sports grounds.
Near the upper lake is the Yunost Park, considered one of the best parks in Kaliningrad for family holidays.
Maraunenhof is a district of Kaliningrad (also the garden district), which was once a suburban quarter of northern Konigsberg.
Currently, the Maraunenhof district is a remnant of the historic German quarter, with cobblestone streets and still preserved, albeit few, houses of the former Konigsberg.
Near the lake and the park are: Amber Museum (Dona Tower), Rosgarten Gate, Wrangel Tower, St. Alexander Nevsky Church and the Oberteich bastion.

Lower Lake
Lower Lake is a large artificial reservoir located in the center of Kaliningrad.
Currently, the lake is the oldest structure of Konigsberg that has survived to this day. It has an irregular strongly elongated shape, stretches from Shevchenko Street to Chernyakhovsky Street, where it is connected and fed by water flowing from Lake Superior with the help of a water cascade.
The area around the shores of the Lower Lake is a green relaxation area.
