Sturla, Genoa

Sturla is a small district, part of a Large Genoa and is located in the Eastern part of the coast of the city.

Sturla originally emerged as a fishing village, formed around several bays, but in 1874, together with the neighboring municipalities, the village was included in the Big Genoa and is now its Eastern suburbs.

Sturla is located 6 km from the historic centre of Genoa (old port).

Sturla district stretches just a mile along the sea line. While a large part of the district spreads inland. On the West side of the coast Sturla bordered by Albaro neighbourhood, and from the East with the area of Quarto dei Mille.

Today, the Chair attracted the attention of beaches, developed infrastructure and transport links to the centre of Genoa, as well as cafes, restaurants and availability of funds placements.

Coast Sturla characterized by the presence of two beaches which are very popular recreation area among local residents and guests of the city of Genoa.

Beaches Sturdy attractive in that they, for the most part, are free, unlike the beach neighbourhood, Alvaro where along the line the sea is a paid beach clubs (Bangui).

Vernazzola (Vernazzola)

Vernazzola - now the beach of the Western part of the area of Sturla, and in the past - a picturesque fishing village at the mouth of the river of Vernazza, located near the Eastern part of the former seaside fishermen's village of Boccadasse, which is now one of the most picturesque places of the Genoese coast.

On the beach you can still see low colorful houses, closely approaching the beach and the fishing boats.

On the beach pebbles of various size, sea water is clean, depth comes rather abruptly.

Sturla Beach

The eponymous beach Sturla is located East along the coast and separated by the same river into two sections.

The Eastern end of the beach belongs to the district of Quarto dei Mille.

Beach longer and more lively than Vernazzola. On the beach pebbles, sometimes mixed with major grey sand, sea water a pleasant blue colour, depth comes sharply.

On the beach: sun loungers and parasols, and a beachfront café-bars, in high season lifeguards.

Turku castle (castello Türcke)

The castle represent a building from the early 20th century (1903), stylized like a small castle located on the Cape of Santa Chiara (Capo di S. Chiara) and gracefully overlooking the Gulf Vernazzola.

The architect of the castle was Gino coppedè who work in the style of architectural eclecticism.

Church of Santissima Annunziata (Chiesa della Santissima Annunziata)

First Church of the blessed virgin was built between 1434 and 1435 years. Later the Church underwent a radical restoration that has practically resulted in a complete reconstruction of the building and the disappearance of references to the Baroque era.

Decree of February 21, 1894, in force since March 4, the Church was elevated to the rank of parish.

In the walls of the Church preserves works of art of the 16th and 17th centuries, including "Madonna and child with saints Sebastiano and Rocco, Madonna and child with Saint Anthony" and the fresco of the 16th century depicting the saints Sebastiano and Rocco. At the end of the right aisle of the chapel is the tomb of Gianotto of Lomellini, a nobleman and a Doge of the Republic of Genoa in the period 1571-1573 years.

In the hinterland Sturla remarkableVilla Bernabo Brea (Bernabò Brea Villa) which is now located in the kindergarten; the oratory of San Celso (Oratorio di San Celso) - the first religious building constructed in Sturla; the oratory of San Giovanni Battista (Oratorio di San Giovanni Battista) and the monastery Battistin Roman monks; the monastery of Santa Chiara and San Sebastiano (Monastero di Santa Chiara di San Sebastiano), the first building which was founded in 1480.
