A memorial sign to Thomas Mann in Svetlogorsk was installed on June 6, 2003 in memory of the writer's visit to Raushen (now the city of Svetlogorsk) in August 1929.
After that, Thomas Mann wrote the famous novella "Mario and the Magician".
Thomas Mann (1875-1955) was one of the most popular German writers of the 20th century and the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The memorial sign is the work of sculptors Lyudmila Bogatova and Oleg Salnikov and is a granite boulder on which the book is placed in an open form, cast in bronze.
On the left page of the book is a graphic portrait of Thomas Mann, and on the right - the text in Russian and German: "You have preserved the greatness of the language, loving it, as only those who have survived the years of exile love."
The memorial sign is installed in the city of Svetlogorsk, at the end of Oktyabrskaya Street, near the serpentine descent to the sea and the building of the former Kurhaus - an elite resort house where Thomas Mann stayed.
