Vienna Square (Wiener Platz) is a small historic square in Munich, located on the east bank of the Isar River in the Au-Haidhausen district, near the Maximiliansbrücke Bridge and the Maximilianeum building.
The name "Vienna", the area was in 1891 in honor of the Austrian capital city of Vienna, because the area adjoins the Innere Wiener straße (Innere Wiener Straße), which in the 19th century was the beginning of the road on the way to Vienna.
Even in 1889, and to this day the square features of the "Vienna market" (Marktes am Wiener Platz), which makes the area center of the district and is the smallest of the four permanent food markets in Munich. The market on the Vienna square is open every day except Sunday. The market offers food and flowers.
The other three markets in Munich: Viktualienmarkt (Viktualienmarkt) in the historic old town, Elisabethmarkt in Schwabing-West (Schwabing-West) and Pasinger Viktualienmarkt (Pasinger Viktualienmarkt) for the Nymphenburg Palace.

The Vienna area

In the North-West of the square is the traditional German restaurant "Hofbraukeller" (Hofbräukeller) with a beer garden, which is considered one of the largest and best in Munich.
From 1896 to 1988 in the neo-Renaissance building was the brewery Hofbrau (Hofbräu). And before that, the brewery was located on the square Platzl (das) in the building which today is the historical restaurant "hofbräuhaus" (Hofbräuhaus).
At Vienna square there wasn't enough space for the brewery, so the brewery itself is in the 80-ies was transferred to the city of Rome Munich (München-Riem), at: Hofbräuallee, 1. And in the building on the square remained, and still exists today, a popular Munich restaurant with beer garden, a large lounge which is on the first floor can also be rented for events.

In the vicinity of Vienna square is a lot of shops and boutiques that will delight shoppers.
Remark! Some sources compare Vienna square with a square of Munich (Marienplatz). However, this seems to do it at least correctly.
Yes, these two squares without a doubt beautiful - each in their own way, both are Central - one marks the centre of the old town of Munich, and the second - the centre of the Haidhausen district.
However, square the different as similar. Marienplatz is the infinite life and bustle, is a majestic neo-Gothic New town hall and the apparent toy Old city hall. And Vienna the area - a true German flavor, if not a village, it is close to such, and is, without a doubt, the area peace of mind with a hint of appeasement, diluting the thick of the ebullient and magnificent city of Munich.
To conclude, we can say the following: in Munich is really worth a visit and make personal opinions about such unlikely but compare the many squares of the city - Vienna square and Marienplatz square.
