Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God «Joy of All Who Sorrow», Svetlogorsk

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All the Sorrowing" is a chapel-temple erected in memory of the tragic death of children and adults as a result of the crash when the AN-24T military transport plane crashed into a kindergarten on May 16, 1972.

The temple was erected at the site of the plane crash, in the city of Svetlogorsk, on Lenin Street.

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Mourn" is also known as the Memorial Church of the tragic death of the kindergarten on May 16, 1972.

The chapel was built according to the project of architects A. Arkhipenko and Yu. Kuznetsov in 1994 on public donations. Consecrated in November of the same year by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad.

The temple has a small size, clear lines, a low pointed bell tower and is painted white.

The interior of the temple is modest and strict.

In the church there is a small iconostasis and photographs of those who died at this place in May 1972.

On the small territory of the temple there is a square, in which there are: a bench, flower beds, a cross in memory of the victims of the tragedy and a memorial stone.
