Born boulevard, Palma (Passeig del Born)

Bourne Boulevard or Passeig del Born - Boulevard (street), which is one of the most visited and busiest streets in the historic center of Palma de Mallorca.

It is also one of the largest boulevards in the city.

The Boulevard was built on the old riverbed Riera, which runs through the center of the city. It consists of a Central pedestrian part tiled and having a shaded area with Seating, as well as two lanes on each side of the pedestrian part of the Boulevard (one for each direction), one of which currently also is a pedestrian zone.

Along both sides of the Boulevard are lined up in a row of a historic building typical of the centre of Palma architectural style.

On the first floors of the buildings are shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants with tables under the open sky in the center of the Boulevard.

The most famous of the buildings along the Boulevard Bourne are:

- old cinema Born (Born), closed in the 1980-ies, transformed into a Department store and which is currently the store "Zara". On the facade is still visible the inscription "Born". The house at number 25;

- the old Palace of the Casal Solleric in the second half of the 18th century in the Rococo style during the transition to Neoclassicism, which belonged to the Marquis Solleric. The Palace is adjacent to the building born and within its walls is currently an art gallery and exhibition space. The house at number 27. Website: casalsolleric.palma.

The length of the Boulevard Bourne is about 300 meters, it stretches in the direction from South to North and connects to a Reial square Joan Carles I (Placa Rei Joan Carles I).

Near the Royal square (the start of the Boulevard Bourne) both sides of the Central pedestrian part of the Boulevard is decorated with sculptures of sphinxes, seated on a high pedestal.

Square Juan Carlos I (the end of the Boulevard Bourne) remarkable flowerbed and fountain with a high obelisk, consisting of two parts connected by the sculptures of turtles. For this reason, the area is also called area of Turtles.

Near the square Juan Carlos I the borne meets the Avenue Jaime III (Av. de Jaume III), which is one of the main commercial streets of Palma.
