Magaluf, Mallorca

Magaluf is a resort town located in the municipality of Calvia in the southwestern part of the island of Mallorca, 16 miles from the center of the island's capital, Palma.

From the South-West side of the coast, Magaluf is bordered by the city of Cala Vinyes (Cala Vinyes), and the North-East from the Punta de Sa Torrenova (Punta de sa Torrenova) which is a tourist town of Palmanova.

The birth of tourism in Magaluf began in 1950-ies and actively developed in the 1960-ies, when there was a tourist boom that caused population growth, the economic and social rise and when it began active construction of hotels to accommodate tourists and the opening of public establishments such as cafes and restaurants.

At present, Magaluf is one of the most developed and popular tourist destinations off the coast of Majorca, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and accommodation facilities. Within the resort there are also night clubs and dance venues.

The bulk of the tourism infrastructure of the city is located near Magalluf beach.

The beach in Magaluf

The eponymous beach or Magaluf Playa Magaluf (Dresses de Magaluf, Playa de Magaluf / Playa de Magaluf) is the heart of the resort, within and around which flows the main tourist life of the resort.

The beach has been awarded the "Blue flag".

Length Magaluf beach is 1600 meters and its average width is 60 meters.

On the beach of fine pale sand from loose to more dense. Sea water is clean, the bottom is mostly sandy, depth comes rather abruptly. On both sides the beach is surrounded by natural rock formations.

In the high beach season on the beach has all the necessary infrastructure: sunbeds and sun umbrellas (beach chair or umbrella 4,50 Euro), boxes and showers, toilets (EUR 0.50), dedicated place for water activities, there are beach cafes, there are service monitoring and first aid, equipped with access for people with disabilities.

The South-Western part of the beach is mostly concrete and concrete-rock, with fitted slopes in sea water.

Near the coast of Magaluf, the Magaluf Bay is a small island of Sa Porrassa (Isla de sa Porrassa, the Catalan name Illa de sa Porrasa).

The width of the island is about 400 meters elevation above the sea level is 36 meters. Because of the proximity to the Bay of Magaluf, until 1960, the island was used for collecting salt, currently it is visited by tourists, getting to swim with Magaluf beach or boating. The island is not populated, infrastructure is lacking.

Along the beach runs a promenade (the seafront promenade), along which are cafes, restaurants, bars, there are a couple of shops and several hotels on the first line.

Sights and activities in Magaluf

Above the beach runs the Av. Magaluf and Avinguda de l'olivera, along which the surrounding streets are cafes, restaurants, bars and retail outlets.
