The fishing vessel "SRT-129" (medium fishing trawler) is one of the domestic fishing vessels of the post-war period and the only one preserved in the north-western region of Russia - the city of Kaliningrad.
These vessels, such as "logger" and "logger-trawler", were intended for fishing herring in the North Atlantic with drift nets and bottom trawl according to the scheme of on-board trawling from both sides.
Vessels of this type in the post-war period played a significant role in the extraction of fish resources and the development of the fishing industry. It was on them, in the mid-50s, that Kaliningrad fishermen first went out into the open ocean and discovered new fishing areas.
The Kaliningrad fishing school was formed on these vessels, which, in the best years, allowed to produce up to 11% of the fish stocks of the whole country. Such vessels were bases where new methods of fishing, storage, and processing of fish products were introduced. They also became models for the construction of 60 research vessels, many of which made an outstanding contribution to the study of the oceans.
Currently, SRT-129 is an original and unique (the only one in the country) museum-certified fishing vessel moored at the quay of the embankment of the Historical Fleet and part of the complex of objects of the Museum of the World Ocean of Kaliningrad.
An exposition "Pioneers of Ocean Fishing" has been created on board the museum ship, dedicated to the history of the fishing fleet of the Kaliningrad region and Russia as a whole, including telling about the work of medium-sized fishing trawlers in the ocean, the life and work of fishermen.

Purse seine and Bottom trawl.
Purse seine 530x117 is a straining fishing gear of rectangular or segmented shape, which in the form of a wall covers the fish shoal during the sweep. The lower stern of the seine is equipped with rings through which a cable is passed. The ends of the rope are pulled from the vessel, while the bottom of the seine is pulled together, thereby forming a net bowl - purse, inside which there is a fish.
The total duration of the work cycle by the wallet method is 40 - 60 minutes. With well-established fishing exploration, the presence of dense shoals, well-coordinated team work and good weather, one-time catches with purse seines reached 3 000 - 5 000 hundredweight of herring.
Bottom trawl 24.7/33 is used for fishing bottom fish species at great depths, on banks, shoals, continental shelves. Bottom trawl during trawling moves along the ground and catches bottom and bottom fishing objects. On average, trawling lasts 1 - 1.5 hours. This trawl has a vertical opening of 3 meters, and a horizontal opening of 15 meters.

The engine room is the heart of the ship
In the wheelhouse there are instruments and devices for controlling the vessel: the main device of the Amur gyrocompass, a steering column with a steering wheel, an indicator of the Donets-2 radar station, a machine telegraph, a gyrocompass repeater, an indicator of the Bream search echo sounder and a remote control of the Ship-3 radio station.
In the navigator's cabin there is a radio direction finder "Fish" and an indicator of the navigation echo sounder "NEL-5".
In the radio room there is a radio receiver "Volna-K", transmitters of various modifications and purposes, a control panel for signal lights.
On the upper bridge there is a frame antenna of a radio direction finder, a flat antenna of a radar station, a binnacle of the main travel compass.
Among the deck equipment, sails are of the greatest interest. Sails were hoisted on vessels of the SRT type, using them to increase the speed of the vessel during the transition from one fishing area to another. The fore sail (jib) was raised on the foremast, the aft sail (trisail-mainsail) - on the mainmast. There is also a fish maker on the deck, where the caught fish were processed.
