Square Platzl is one of the most beautiful public squares in the historic part of Munich.
Platzl is a small pedestrian area of irregular shape, located in the old town Munich (Altstadt), close to the Central square Marienplatz, near the Old yard (Alter Hof), between the streets Orlandostraße, Bräuhausstraße, Münzstraße, Pfisterstraße, Falkenturmstraße and the area of Am Kosttor.
Square Platzl first mentioned on maps with its present name in 1780. Previously the area was known only as a quarter "Graggenau".
This area is one of the most photographed in Munich, and for good reason, because of the square are located close to each other, striking historical buildings - old townhouses on the first floor where there are cafes and restaurants.

Hofbräuhaus (Hofbräuhaus)
The historic hofbräuhaus beer hall was originally the Royal brewery, and today is a famous tavern, which occupies almost the entire Eastern half of the area.

House of Orlando
House Orlando undoubted architectural gem square Platzl.
The building was built around 1900 on the project of the max Littmann as a noble house.
The name comes from the name of a composer of the Renaissance Orlando di Lasso, who lived in the same place in the previous house Orlando in the 16th century.
House Orlando has always been used as a restaurant, tavern or coffee shop. Currently, the building is a restaurant, Schuhbecks Orlando with an elegant interior.

The square is notable for the "Cleft fountain", also known as the fountain of "Red riding hood" (Wolfsbrunnen / Wolfsbrunnen), established in 1904.
