Palm Jumeirah or Palm Island (arabic name: نخلة الجميرة) is an island in Dubai that is shaped like a palm tree and is one of the wonders, a popular destination and an attraction of the emirate.
Palm Jumeirah is an artificial man-made island, or rather an archipelago of artificial islands, located in the waters of the Persian Gulf, and is connected by a bridge to the mainland of Dubai.
Construction of the island began in June 2001, and in 2006 developers announced the delivery of the first residential units.
The island has the shape of a date palm - the national plant of the United Arab Emirates. The archipelago has a palm trunk, a crown consisting of 17 palm branches and a crescent-shaped part bordering the branches, which acts as a barrier protecting the Palm Jumeirah from sea waves.
Over time, the Palm Jumeirah has developed and become a place not only for living, but also for tourists to visit. The island has beaches and beach clubs, embankments and parkland, marinas and parking lots, as well as the Abdul Rahman Siddiq Mosque, places for shopping, entertainment, walking, recreation and leisure, including water sports, restaurants and bars, shops and shopping and entertainment complex, luxury hotels and luxury resort complexes with private beaches, among which are notable: Five Palm Jumeirah Dubai, Atlantis The Palm, Atlantis The Royal, Sofitel The Palm, Raffles The Palm, Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah and One&Only The Palm Dubai.
Thus, Palm Jumeirah has become not only one of the world's largest man-made islands, but also a significant symbol of Dubai, embodying the energy, growth and ambitions of the emirate.
Today, anyone can visit the Palm Jumeirah, while taking advantage of its infrastructure.
