Max Ashmann park, Kaliningrad (Forest lake)

Max Aschmann Park is one of the parks of the city of Kaliningrad, which takes its history from the time of Kenegsberg (now the city of Kaliningrad) and at that time bore the German name Max-Aschmann-Park (Max-Aschmann-Park).

Max Aschmann Park has an area of about 68 hectares. It is located between Gorky, Bagatyrskaya and Herzen Streets, not far from the botanical garden of the I. Kant BFU and the Maraunenhof district - the former suburban quarter of northern Konigsberg.

The founder of the park is considered to be a large Konigsberg entrepreneur and owner of the Steffens and Voltaire wine house Max Aschmann, who in 1903 bequeathed the Maraunehof estate to his city of Konigsberg, and also donated one hundred thousand marks to the city treasury for the construction of the park.

The park was laid out in 1910. Over time, the park grew, and work continued on its improvement until 1940. In particular, a swimming pond was created and paths for walking near the reservoir and leading to different parts of the park were laid out.

After the First World War, a memorial sign was erected in the park in memory of 100 graduates of the Altstadt Gymnasium who died during the war. The monument was a boulder on a concrete pedestal with an epitaph stamped on it.

After the end of World War II, Max Aschmann Park was in an abandoned state for a long time. Subsequently, multi-storey residential buildings and cottage developments came close to the borders of the forest park, which forced the city authorities to think about the future of a unique green zone. In 1025, work began on the improvement and preservation of the historical Max Aschmann Park.

Currently, the park is a green area, more like a forest belt (subjective opinion), for walking and recreation.

In Max Aschmann Park:

- paths and paths for walking;

- there are several lakes, the largest of which is Lake Lesnoye, the territory near which is used by citizens for picnics and recreation;

- on the side of Gorky and Gaidar Streets there is a children's playground and a sports ground. Here is the main entrance to the park, although you can enter the park not only from this side of it.

Coordinates of Max Aschmann Park: 54°44'53" (54.748147), 20°30'46" (20.512862).
