Lake Swan, Curonian Spit - most picturesque lake on the spit

Lake Swan is one of the natural attractions of the Curonian Spit (Kaliningrad Region, Russia).

Lake Lebed is not only the most picturesque lake of the Curonian Spit, but also unique, since it is the only reservoir of Aeolian origin on the spit, which appeared relatively recently in the small bay.

The lake is located on the ghost plain of the Curonian Spit Bay, at the foot of the dune ridge and is separated from the bay by a thin strip of land, and is surrounded by a moist alder forest.

This is the second largest reservoir of the Curonian Spit, the first is Lake Chaika in the village of Rybachy.

The name" Swan " was given to the lake because it is home to waterfowl: sibilant swans, as well as coot ducks, chomgi, mallards and gray herons.

There is an observation deck on a hill, not far from Lake Swan. The descent to the lake itself along the eastern slope of the dunes is prohibited in order to avoid the destruction of the avandune.

There is a 3-kilometer public walking route to the observation deck of Lake Lebed, which runs along part of the Curonian Spit-on the 46 kilometer of the spit, near the village of Morskoye.

The route "Lake Swan" is located in the direction of the Curonian Lagoon from the road 27A-015 (to the right of the road, if you move from Zelenogradsk). There is an information sign on the road.

Also, the route of Lake Lebed includes an exit to the Baltic Sea coast (you can pass at will), located to the left of the roadway (opposite to Lake Lebed), if you move from Zelenogradsk. The descent to the sea is equipped with a wooden staircase.

The route "Swan Lake" introduces guests to the man-made coastal protection structures (avanduna), with the landscapes of the sea coast, the Palve plain, the great dune ridge and the coast of the Curonian Lagoon.

Near the beginning of the route to Lake Swan, there is a parking lot, there are information stands.

The route passes along the western slope of the Loose dune (German name: Kaspalegeberg), which is equipped with wooden decking.

After climbing the slope, we come out on a flat plateau. From here you can enjoy panoramic views of the Curonian Lagoon, meadows and forest.

Then you should turn left and move along a flat plateau to the high ridge of the Olenya Buda dune, where at an altitude of about 55 meters above sea level there is an observation deck with beautiful panoramic views of the spit, the bay, the forest and the Swan Lake itself.
