The Kronprinz Defensive Barracks or simply the Kronprinz Barracks is one of the objects that were part of the defensive belt of the fortress city of Konigsberg (now the city of Kaliningrad).
The Crown Prince Barracks was laid out on October 15, 1843, according to the project of Ernst Ludwig von Aster. Finally built in 1849.
The barracks got its name in honor of the heir to the Prussian throne , William I.
It is noteworthy that the spatial planning decision of the barracks was influenced by the works of the Russian engineer, Lieutenant General L.L. Carbonnier, according to whose projects the forts "Peter I" and "Alexander I" were built in the city of St. Petersburg in the 1830s.
Immediately after the construction, the barracks were occupied by elite units of the Konigsberg garrison.
The Kronprinz defensive barracks consists of a main U-shaped building with two side wings (with massive towers at the corners). The main building, wings and rear buildings form an inner courtyard. Stylized loopholes are placed in the battlements on the side of the redan tower facing the courtyard.
The barracks "Kronprinz" was connected by an underground passage with the neighboring building - the bastion "Grolman".
During the assault on Konigsberg, in April 1945, the barracks received minor damage.
Currently, the Kronprinz barracks is subject to state protection, is an object of cultural heritage of the Kaliningrad region of federal significance and is included in the list of objects of the recommended route "Kaliningrad fortification".
A branch of the Moscow State University of Technology and Management named after K.G. Razumovsky is located within the walls of the barracks. The barracks can be viewed from the outside and go to the courtyard.
It is noteworthy that on the letters of the barracks you can see a sign with the following inscription: "fortress of Frederick the Great, 1759."
