Tarragona Central Market (Mercat Central de Tarragona)

Central market or Mercato Centrale de Tarragona (Mercat Central de Tarragona) - the Central market of Tarragona, located in the historical and tourist center of the city in Piazza Corsini (Plaça de Corsini).

The market building was designed by architect Josep Maria Pujol de barberà in the art Nouveau style and opened in December 1915. Prior to the construction of a large market space, the surroundings of the Mercat Central was not United, instead, outlets have been fragmented scattered in separate parts of the city. Association of dealers under one roof has become an integral part of the development of the district, and then and the commercial axis of the city.

Renovated modernist building market, which can be seen today, was opened in March 2017. The cost of reconstruction amounted to 47 million euros.

Currently, the market building itself is a landmark and serves as the main decoration of the square Corsini.

Longitudinal structure has four facades with designs in the form of three arches on each of the facades. The two main facade consists of three arches - a large Central and two small side. The side facades repeat the same scheme, but with a longer wall transitions between the arches.

The total area of the market is 22 248 square metres, of which 9 704 is allocated to logistics.
