The Ascension and Theodosius Church in Perm is the main and, according to most, one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in the city.
The temple has many names, it is also called the Ascension Church or the Ascension Church, Theodosius Church, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, the Bishop's compound and even the Fedoseevskaya Church.
The church is located in the very center of the city of Perm, at the intersection of the central streets: Borchaninov (formerly Shadrinskaya Street) d. 11 and Yekaterinburg d. 170.
This is one of the last churches built in the city of Perm before the revolution.
Originally the church was called the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, or simply the Ascension. Nowadays it is better known by the name of Theodosius Church or temple. In the people, the church was called "merchant", but at present this name has been forgotten and is no longer used.
No wonder this temple was called merchant. From the outside, the church is quite remarkable, has an impressive size and a beautiful red and white appearance, decorated with golden domes on top. This church catches the eye from afar and serves as an ornament of two central streets of the city.
The Church of the Ascension is made of red brick in the neo-Russian style, decorated with white ornaments around the perimeter. The appearance of the church has one of the most famous views of Perm.
Above the main entrance to the temple there is a bas-relief with the face of the Savior.
On the territory of the church, opposite the entrance, in honor of the Christmas holidays, a composition of a biblical fragment was placed.
Once there was a hostel in the church building, and after that there was a bakery. The bakery building was gradually decaying, it needed major repairs. In the late 1970s, the city authorities removed the bakery from the church and began the restoration of the facades of the building. Upon completion of the restoration, it was planned to place an organ hall in the building. However, the idea of an organ hall failed, because due to the lack of sufficient funds, the restoration was very slow and dragged on for a long time. In 1991, the church was returned to the faithful again. Nowadays, the building houses the parish of the Ascension of the Lord of the Perm Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Finally, Theodosius Church was restored only at the beginning of 2000, after which it was included in the list of historical monuments of local significance.
The Ascension-Theodosius Church has two temples. The upper one is the main one and the main one, and the lower one is smaller, located below ground level on the ground floor.
The upper temple has a rather impressive size and expensive decoration. In our opinion, it is too pretentious and carved, it is already rippling in the eyes and there is no way to focus on any one icon and thought.
The entrance to the lower temple is located to the right of the main entrance. This temple has a more modest decoration and a calm atmosphere. Holy water is also located here.
