"At the Gate" Square in Munich (Am Kosttor)

Square Am Kosttor or literally translated from German: "At the gate", formerly Wurzertor, was originally the place where one of the gates of the second city wall of medieval Munich was located. A tower was erected near the gate to strengthen it.

Kosttor was first mentioned in 1325 under the name "Graggenauer Tor". Likely, the gate was built during the first expansion of the city in the first half of the 13th century, to reach the mills in Grainau. The gate was demolished in 1872.

On the wall of one of the houses surrounding the square, located at the address: Haus Platzl 5, is a plaque with the following text: "To the North of this house was Graggenauerthor, later called Wurzer-and then Kostthor built by the Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. To the North-East of the house was Nocturn (Neuthurm), also known as Solidturn (Schuldthurm), built in 1771. Both towers were demolished in 1872".
