San Miguel Street / St. Michael's Street (Carrer de Sant Miquel) is one of the most important shopping and most visited streets in the historic center of Palma de Mallorca.
The length of St. Michael’s street is about 600 meters. It stretches north from Mayor Square, the main square of Palma, to the northern outskirts of the city center, at the intersection of Avenida Joan March Ordinas and Avinguda del Comte de Sallent.
For convenience, the orientation of the street San Miguel can be divided into two segments:
first place - southern, more visited, he's completely pedestrian. Stretches from Plaza Mayor and before the arrival of Santa Catalina. The length of this section of the street is about 350 meters;
second - Northern, less visited and attractive. Its length is about 250 meters.
The southern part of the street of Sant Miquel, which is completely pedestrian, has expanded farther to the North.
Along the street in serried ranks are historic buildings, the first floors of which are shops, boutiques, salons, cafes and restaurants.
At Carrer de Sant Miquel 11 is the Museum of Juan March Foundation (Museu Fundacion Juan March), located in a historic 17th-century building, which was originally conceived as a house and is widely known as Kan Galiard del Cañar (Can Gallard del Canyar), on behalf of the family that owned the property prior to the beginning of the 20th century.
The building was acquired in 1916 by the Creator of the Foundation, Juan Marcham Ordinator. The Museum was restored and chosen to host part of the collection of the Juan March Foundation since 1990. After the Museum was expanded and updated several times.
The Museum offers its guests a collection of works of Spanish art of the twentieth century, including the most significant authors of the first avant-garde (Pablo Picasso, Juan Miro, Juan Gris and Salvador Dali), different movements of the mid-century and the most recent generations.
The Museum also has exhibition halls, which are projects dedicated to contemporary artists and the Cabinet, mainly on the exhibition of graphic art, especially Pablo Picasso.
St. Michael's Basilica (Basilica of St. Michael), on whose behalf and was named the whole street, is the most important landmark of the street and located at Carrer de Sant Miquel, 21.
The Church was built on the remains of the Muslim mosque, traces of which is now not preserved. The first mass in the Church was held after the Catalan conquest of 1229 31 December of the year.
Later the Shrine was rebuilt in the style of Catalan Gothic, and from 1632, expanded and rebuilt. The Church dedicated to the Archangel Michael and catches the eye with its rectangular tower-the bell tower.
In 2018, the Church was elevated to the rank of minor Basilica by Pope Francis.
The main portal of the Church of St. Michael opens onto a small square of the blessed virgin Mary (the plaça de la Mare de Deu de la Salut) with small green areas, sculptures and places to relax.

The Northern part of the street of St. Michael less interesting and popular among city guests. It is wider, modern and not a pedestrian.
Of noteworthy in this part of the street arethe Church, the parish of Santa Catalina de Siena (Esglesia de Santa Catalina de Siena), the Church of St. Margaret (Esglesia de Santa Margalida) and the center of military history and culture of the Balearic Islands (Centro de Historia y Cultura Militar de Baleares), which hold exhibitions and conferences.
