Pratever Bridge in Munich (Praterwehrbrücke)

The Pratever Bridge (Praterwehrbrücke) is one of the bridges over the Isar River in Munich.

The Pratever Bridge is located east of the hysterical old town of Munich and connects the west bank of the Isar River with the Prater Island (Praterinsel).

The Pratever Bridge is a small bridge and is the only bridge on which you can reach the island of Prater by car.

The bridge existing nowadays, was built in 1966. Under the bridge the dam is located, which is an important drainage system internal Isartor channel.

On the north side of the Praterverbrücke Bridge, on a concrete intermediate support, is a statue of St. Johann von Nepomuk, the patron saint of rafts and ferrymen.

This figure was dedicated to the family of raftsmen Heiß from bad tölz. On the pedestal of the monument is the inscription: "Dedicated to the bourgeoisie. Master raft - Xavier Heiss - Johann Heiss - Jos. Thaddeus of hiss - 1857" ("Gewidmet - von den - bürgerl. Floßmeistern - Xaver Heiß - Heiß Johann - Jos. Thadeus Heiß - 1857").

In some sources there is also mention of a wooden figure of Nepomuk on the bridge of the Prater, which in 1865 was replaced by a stone figure.

Just 50 metres North of the bridge Preserver is the inner part of the monumental bridge of Maximilian (Maximiliansbrücke), which is an architectural monument and is named in honor of the Bavarian king Maximilian II. Read more about the Maximilian bridge...
