The Villa was built in 1540 for the banker Adamo Centurion. The name of the architect who designed the Villa is unknown.
Later the building was rebuilt and enlarged.
In 1908 the Villa was sold to a real estate company, and in 1926 moved to the municipality of Genoa. For several years the Villa was used as a municipal separate residence "delegation" of Pegli, who had just joined the "Great Genoa". In 1930, the building became the residence of the Civil naval Museum and a branch of the secondary school "Giuseppe Mazzini".
Currently the Villa has a Renaissance style, surrounded by a public Park, and within its walls is housed the Maritime Museum, which presents a collection of Maritime paintings, ship models, nautical charts, and objects used in the marine and port area, illustrating the history of the Ligurian Navy from the middle ages to the present day.

In 1443, on the site of an earlier Church, the chapel was built under the name "Romitorio di S. Antonio abate", in the place where in the fourteenth century lived the blessed Martino ANSA, the hermit, remains of which are in the present Church.
