The Museum of Kaleichi Suna and Inana Kyrach (Suna-İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Müzesi) is an ethnographic house-museum in Antalya that reflects Turkish traditions and the spirit of Turkish folk culture with its most striking elements.
The museum is located in the center of Antalya, in the old town of Kaleici and operates under the auspices of the Institute for the Study of Mediterranean Civilizations of Suna and Inan Kyrach at the Wehbi Kocha Foundation.
The museum is located in two historical buildings (the house and the former Orthodox Church of St. George / Aya Yorgi) with a courtyard. The buildings were acquired in 1993 in an abandoned state by Suna and Inan Kyrach and restored in 1995, after which, on May 18, 1996, a museum was opened in the buildings.
Today the museum consists of two buildings with exhibitions and expositions
A two-storey traditional house of a Turkish family, which is an example of a traditional Antalya house of the 19th century.
The ceiling is decorated with wooden panels, and the walls are painted. The floor has mosaics, with floral and geometric ornaments, created by placing pebbles collected on the coast Konyaalty, on a special solution that creates coolness on hot summer days.
The house exhibits traditional scenes from Turkish culture, telling about the life of the citizens of Antalya. In the "life" section on the top floor of the house, old photos tell about the history of the city. The "Wedding House" is displayed in 3 rooms, reflecting the traditions of receiving guests at the wedding, the dowry room and the henna night tradition room.
The expositions use ethnographic artifacts such as clothes, bedspreads, furniture, carpets and rugs collected in the Antalya region.
The second building of the museum is the former Greek Orthodox Church of St. George (in Turkish Aya Yorgi Kilisesi) on the eastern entrance door of which there is an inscription written in Turkish in the Greek alphabet: "This church of Aya Yorgi existed for a long time. Since it was destroyed, it was built with the support of Christianity in Antalya. 1863".
Today the church has one nave, a general view of Mediterranean architecture, decorated with simple painted and plaster decorations of different shades of blue and is used as an exhibition hall of the museum. A rich collection of Canakkale ceramics is on display here, and short thematic exhibitions related to local cultures are held in the women's living room on the upper floor.
The museum also presents original figurines of street vendors created by Antalya ceramic artist Sadrettin Savash in a cartoon interpretation.
