The Imperial Yachts Museum, also called the Maritime Museum, is one of the museums located in the Lower Park of the Peterhof Palace and Park Ensemble in Peterhof (Saint Petersburg).
The museum is located near the harbor of the Gulf of Finland, which belonged to the imperial residence - The large Peterhof Palace with an adjacent garden.
The museum's exposition is dedicated to an unfamiliar page in the life of the imperial family - the history of the St. Petersburg fleet and the construction of yachts, which was initiated by Peter I, gained strength during the reign of Catherine II, and a special flourishing began during the reign of Nicholas I.
In the exposition of the Museum presents: sea skipper coat and jacket of Peter I, uniformed dress in the Navy uniform of the Empress Catherine II, photos of models and the Grand Imperial yacht, that was real floating palaces, yacht sets, paintings and drawings and objects of decorative and applied art dedicated to the glorious history of Nevsky and Baltic fleets.
The museum presents a model of the ship Shnyava of the Baltic Fleet of Russia "Munker", which was originally made according to the drawings of Peter the Great himself.
The museum also presents models of yachts.
The museum "Imperial Yachts" is located in the northern part of the Lower Park of the Palace and Park Ensemble "Peterhof", which belongs to the State Museum-Reserve"Peterhof".
The museum and fountains of Peterhof are closed for the winter (do not work) - from about mid-October until the 20th of April.
In winter, when the fountains are not working, the entrance to the Lower Park is free (free of charge).
During the summer, the fountains and the museum are open and the entrance to the park is paid. A visit to the museum "Imperial Yachts" is not included in the price of the entrance to the Lower Park - it is paid separately.
