Monument to the carriage in Petersburg (1st Sovetskaya street) - carriage of time

The monument to the carriage is one of the monuments installed in St. Petersburg.

The official name of the monument: monument to the legendary proletka. It is also known as the "carriage of time" or simply - the monument to the carriage.

The monument is made of bronze and is mounted on a two-stage pedestal. It is a carriage carriage-a light open four-wheeled two-seat carriage, mainly single-horse.

This monument is interactive - you can get into the carriage.

Above the carriage, on a bronze tripod made in the form of cables, there is a clock. For this reason, the monument is also known as the "Carriage of Time", as a sign of edification that our time is fleeting - not so long ago, the streets of the city were moved by carriages, and now the city is cut through by nimble cars, under the hoods of which more than 100 horses are hidden.

The "carriage clock" is connected to the Glonass system - the mechanism is Swiss, does not require winding, the time is set by satellite.

And, they say, the carriage is magical! After all, inside someone "forgot" their wallet, which should be rubbed for good luck and quick wealth, and leave a coin next to it.

The monument was erected in May 2018.

The author of the sculpture is the sculptor Alexander Dobrovolsky.

The carriage is not harnessed, and, as the author of the work himself explains, this is not for nothing: - "Horses are not needed: here the principle "let the glass be half full or half full" applies. Everyone chooses for themselves. The wheelchair is in limbo: either it is being restored or it is being dismantled."

The monument to the proletka is located in the center of St. Petersburg, near Nevsky Prospekt, at the end of the pedestrian street-1st Sovetskaya Street.

1-ya Sovetskaya Street, for the establishment of the monument to the legendary proletka, was not chosen by chance.

In the second half of the 18th century (1766), the street was called Novaya Karetnaya. This name was derived from the new carriage row: "It consists of a long chain of stone sheds, in which there are for sale carriages, carriages, sledges and other equipment for carriages. (Georges)".

Later, the street had several names: Karetnaya, 1st Rozhdestvenskaya and simply 1st. The street received its current name on October 6, 1923.

At the very end of 1st Sovetskaya Street, near the monument to the carriage, there is a circle on the ground, created in 2017 and which lists the names of the street.

The nearest metrostations are Ploshchad Vosstaniya and Mayakovskaya.
