The building of the Russian Commercial and Industrial Bank is a historical building of the commercial and industrial bank, which is an architectural monument and is located in the center of St. Petersburg.
The building was built in 1912-1914 by architect Marian Marianovich Peretyatkovich for the Russian Commercial and Industrial Bank.
The place where the bank building was erected, since the beginning of the 18th century, was occupied by a small one-story mansion of General Pyotr Vasilyevich Izmailov. Subsequently, the building changed owners and was rebuilt, until, in the early 20th century, it was bought by a bank.
Work on the facade of the bank building was carried out by the company "Granit", sculptors L. A. Dietrich and V. V. Kozlov participated in the decoration of the facade and interiors.
In the same years as the construction of this bank building, the architect Peretyatkovich worked on a nearby building for the Wawelberg Banking House.
In the 1920s, the building of the Russian Commercial and Industrial Bank housed the Political Department of the Petrograd Military District and the Museum of the Red Army. In the 1930s, the regional office of the State Bank, the Leningrad Geological and Exploration Trust of Non-metallic Minerals, the branch of the newspaper "Sovetskaya Torgovaya" and the regional offices for the harvesting of hemp, flax, grain and hay worked. In the 1950s, the Department of Water and Agriculture of the Executive Committee of the Leningrad Regional Council was located.
Today, the building is an architectural monument of the early 20th century, has an eclectic style with numerous references to the Renaissance. It stands out among the surrounding buildings, attracting attention with its massiveness and dark color, which give the impression of the heaviness of the structure.
The building has four floors.
The main facade, facing Bolshaya Morskaya Street, is faced with rough-hewn gray granite. The first floor is made in the form of an arcade, the third and fourth are framed by a colonnade. Also in the design of the facade there are mascarons, cartouches, capitals of columns and a balcony.
A sign on the facade of the building: "In this house, from 1963 to 1987, the head of Glavzapstroy - Hero of Socialist Labor, winner of state prizes in the field of construction Korneliy Arkadyevich Glukhovsky worked."
