The building of the police presidium, Kaliningrad (Polizeipräsidium)

The building of the Police Presidium (German name: Polizeipräsidium) is an architectural monument, an object of cultural heritage of regional significance and is included in the lists of attractions of the city of Kaliningrad.

The building of the police presidium was erected back in the days of Konigsberg (now the city of Kaliningrad), in 1912 on Stresemannstrasse.

The author of the project was senior privy Councilor for construction Oscar Lauver. The construction was carried out under the direction of Eduard Furstenau.

From 1933 until the beginning of 1945, the Gestapo headquarters was located in the building. After World War II, until the collapse of the Soviet Union, the building was home to the Kaliningrad regional directorate of the NKVD, after - the KGB. Today, the building houses the office of the FSB of the Kaliningrad region.

The building of the former police presidium is made of red clinker brick, in the neo-Renaissance style. It has a quadrangular elongated shape with courtyards. The right wing is decorated with a balcony with a terrace.

The main portal (the main entrance, from the side of Sovetsky Prospekt) is decorated with a relief made of shell rock, the central element of which is the head of an ancient warrior. The relief of the portal was made in 1913 by the famous Koenigsberg sculptor Stanislav Kauer, who is the author of many works in the city, for example, the Putti fountain located on the Peter the Great embankment; the Schiller monument located in the Energetikov Square on Mira Avenue, etc.
