Church of All Saints on the Cross, Munich (Allerheiligenkirche am Kreuz)

The Church of All Saints on the Cross (Allerheiligenkirche am Kreuz), also called the Church of the Holy Cross (Kreuzkirche), is a late Gothic Roman Catholic church that was originally the cemetery church of the parish of St. Peter.

In 1478, due to significant population growth around the two existing cemeteries in the town churches of St. Peter and the Frauenkirche was not enough and the cemetery was moved to the outskirts of the city, but still remained within the city walls.

The architect jörg von Halsbach designed and built a new cemetery Church, with the tower helmet and four Gables. A feature of the Church is its orientation to the South, because until the 19th century any location of the churches, especially of the cemetery, except on the East, condemned, because the return of Christ was expected from the East, from the rising of the sun.

In 1485, the Shrine was consecrated as the Church of All Saints at the cross.

During the history the Church was rebuilt and expanded. So, the tower of the Church was enlarged in 1506, expansion and transformation occurred in the 17th and 18th century the interior was renovated in 1936. After the damage caused during the Second world war damage, the Church was rebuilt in a reduced form (1947-1949 years).

In the Church tower are two bells from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Today the building of the Church of All Saints at the cross is a monument of architecture.
