The Poggi ramp system (Rampe Poggi, Sistema delle Rampe del Poggi) is a monumental work in Florence, which is a complex of ramps with cascading fountains, grottoes and panoramic terraces.
The Poggi ramp was built in the 19th century by the Italian architect Giuseppe Poggi (hence the name of the ramps), as part of the city renewal program, since then Florence became the capital of the Italian kingdom. Subsequently, the ramps were restored.
This magnificent structure is one of the most daring creations of Poggi and is a series of ramps in the neo-Mannerist style leading from the gate-tower of St. Nicholas (Porta San Niccolo) to the famous panoramic Michelangelo Square (Piazzale Michelangelo), which creates one of the most memorable walks in Florence.
Today, the Poggi ramps are one of the attractions of Florence. They have three levels connected by paths and stairs, making them the most beautiful staircase in Florence.
Ramps are decorated with cascading waterfalls, fountains, pools, grottoes, boulders, plants and are illuminated in the evening.
In order for fountains and waterfalls to work, ramps use 250 thousand liters of water that circulates inside the installation and is collected in an internal tank.

The terraces of the ramps offer wonderful panoramic views of historic Florence.
Access to ramps is free. They are open 24 hours a day.
