The Palace of Zinaida Yusupova is a historical building in St. Petersburg, which was owned by the family of Princes Yusupov and which was built for Zinaida Ivanovna Yusupova.
The building is also known as the mansion of Zinaida Yusupova and the Foundry House of Princess Yusupova.
This palace is one of the most beautiful buildings on Liteyny Prospekt.
The mansion was built specifically for Zinaida Ivanovna Yusupova, nee Naryshkina, the widow of the chamberlain Prince Boris Nikolaevich Yusupov.
The construction lasted from 1852 to 1858 according to the project of the architect Ludwig Ludwigovich Bonstedt.
The state apartments of the mansion were decorated in various styles, there was also a winter garden, a collection of decorative and applied art and Western European paintings in the house. Many plafonds and medallions of decoration were made by the artist N. A. Maikov.
In 1855, at the request of the princess, permission was given for a lifetime arrangement at the mansion of the house church. Then, on the third floor of the southern service wing of the mansion, carpenter Lapshin created a wooden vault and a dome on sails and arches resting on wall pillars. The artistic decoration of the temple was created in 1857-1859: the walls were painted in pink and green with gilding, the carved gilded iconostasis was designed by A.M. Gornostaev. The church was consecrated in 1861 in the name of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The wedding of Princess Yusupova with a French citizen, General adviser to the Minister of Finance, Count de Chauveau, Marquis de Serre, took place in the house church.
The Countess de Chauveau died in France, having bequeathed the "Foundry House" to her great - grandson, Count F.F. Sumarokov-Elston.
The last pre-revolutionary owner of the mansion from the Yusupov family was the great-grandson of Zinaida Ivanovna-Felix Yusupov (junior).
Since 1908, the building has been rented by the St. Petersburg Aristocratic Club. The building housed the "Crooked Mirror" parody theater.
After 1917, the palace was nationalized and various organizations were located within its walls. The house church was dismantled.
Today, the house-palace of Zinaida Yusupova is a monument of history and architecture, has two floors and is made in the style of Italian Renaissance architecture using Baroque elements.
The building is completely lined with stone-Bremen sandstone from Germany. The main entrance is highlighted by a portal with large stone caryatids. Above the entrance there is a balcony decorated with stone vases and sculptures. Also, the facade of the mansion is decorated with semi-columns and pilasters with capitals.
The building is also rich in stucco decorations. The buildings are completed by three pediments, - above the central one you can see the coats of arms of the Naryshkins and Yusupovs.
You can visit the palace of Zinaida Yusupova with an excursion, or during exhibitions, concerts and other events held within the walls of the mansion, as well as within the framework of events and excursions of the Open City project.
