The Pushkin Dacha Museum is a memorial museum of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, located in a historical building in the city of Pushkin in St. Petersburg (formerly Tsarskoye Selo).
The Pushkin Memorial Museum-Dacha was opened in 1958 in a historic house on Pushkinskaya Street (the street was called Kolpinskaya until 1949).
Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin rented a dacha (8 rooms) in the house of the widow of the court valet Anna Kitaeva from May 25 to mid-October 1831. Pushkin arrived in Tsarskoye Selo with his wife Natalia Nikolaevna shortly after the wedding.
During his stay in Tsarskoye Selo, Pushkin worked a lot and fruitfully. So, in the summer and autumn of 1831, he wrote "Onegin's Letter to Tatiana", the poems "Echo", "The more often the lyceum celebrates..." and prepared for publication the "Belkin's Stories" written in Boldino.
The history of the museum in the former house of Kitaeva dates back to the 1930s, when members of the then existing Pushkin Society A. N. Tolstoy, Yu. N. Tynyanov, V. Ya. Shishkov and other Soviet writers raised the question of the need to take effective measures to preserve the former house of Kitaeva. In March 1941, it was decided to evict the residents from the former office of Alexander Pushkin and to open a museum room there, but the Great Patriotic War prevented the implementation of these plans.
During the war, the wooden one-story house of Kitaeva miraculously survived, and since December 21, 1958, fruitful work on the revival of Pushkin's memorial rooms began in the former house of Kitaeva.
The grand opening of the Pushkin Memorial Museum-Dacha after repair and reconstruction took place on June 6, 1981.
Today, the memorial museum-dacha is still located in the one-story wooden building of Kitaeva, which has largely preserved its original architectural appearance.
The memorial plaque on the house-museum tells that the house of Ya. Kitaev was built in 1827 by the architect V. M. Gornostaev. The house is now an architectural monument and is protected by the state.
Among the rooms in the dacha museum, you can visit the dining room, living room, boudoir, bedroom and the recreated study of the poet in the mezzanine of the house.
The interiors of the rooms recreated according to the memoirs of contemporaries, as well as the materials presented in the museum's exposition tell the guests about the life and work of the poet.
A special section of the exhibition is dedicated to the stay in Tsarskoye Selo of N.M. Karamzin and V.A. Zhukovsky, senior contemporaries and literary mentors of Pushkin.
