Monument to Kurt Eisner in Munich (Kurt-Eisner-Denkmal)

There is in the North-Western part of the Old town of Munich one little-known attraction is a memorial and monument to Kurt Eisner (Kurt-Eisner-Denkmal).

Kurt Eisner (14 may 1867 in Berlin - 21 February 1919 in Munich) was a German left-wing political activist and journalist, participant in the November revolution, the first Prime Minister of Bavaria.

The monument is not quite normal, it is a metal floor plate (plate) installed under the open sky on the pavement to commemorate the assassination on 21 February 1919 in Munich, the first Prime Minister of Bavaria Kurt Eisner.

Commemorative plate was designed by Erica Maria Lankes and opened in 1989 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary since the death of Kurt Eisner on the street Cardinal Faulhaber's-Strasse (Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße) near the house number 14A (before Montgelas Palace / Palais Montgelas) - in the place where the German nationalist Lieutenant count Anton von Arco valley shot Eisner Kurt Eisner, producing a close range shot twice in the back and in the head.

The memorial shows the contour of the body of Eisner on the steel plate, in the position in which the police marked it with chalk when it detects a dead man.

Over the shape of the body is the inscription:

"Kurt Eisner proclaimed Bavaria a Republic on 8 November 1918, later Prime Minister of the people's state of Bavaria, was murdered here on 21 February 1919".

The building of the Palace Mongela or Montgelas Palace (Palais Montgelas), near which is a monument that was built in the years 1811-1813 Portuguese architect Emmanuel Hirigoyen for count Maximilian Joseph von Mangala in the classical style and feature a French-German architect and Bavarian Builder Jean-Baptiste Motive.

Since 1969 and till now the Palace is part of historic 5-star hotel Bayerischer Hof.
