The kitchen-ruin is one of the historical park pavilions located in the landscape part of the Catherine Park, in the former Tsarskoye Selo (now the Pushkin city of St. Petersburg).
The kitchen was built by D. Quarenghi in the 1780s to warm up meals for guests of the nearby Concert hall.
Today, this circular structure, complicated by two rectangular projections, looks like an ancient dilapidated monument. However, the structure was specially aged.
The appearance of" antiquity " is created due to the fact that the structure was deliberately "aged", and when creating it, D. Quarenghi used fragments of authentic ancient monuments - marble capitals, cornice and frieze with carved garlands.
In the upper part of the walls and in the spaces between the columns of the building there are six plaster bas-reliefs, cast by the sculptor C. Albani and specially damaged in order to give them the appearance of antiquity. Also, an imitation of a destroyed monument of antiquity can be traced in places of exposed, as if weathered, brickwork, and the cornice and plaster walls are covered with cracks.
The curved parts of the facade are decorated with columns.
Previously, the kitchen was decorated with a sculpture (now not preserved).
The pavilion has windows and an entrance decorated in the form of a niche, in the depth of which a door is placed.
