Vaporetto (traveling around the island of Venice)

Public land transport and cars do not run on the island part of Venice.

From Rome Square, Tronchetto and from Santa Lucia Train station, further along the historical island part of Venice, you can move on foot or by Vaporetto (Vaporetto) - water public transport, that is, a river tram, a motor ship, a water bus - the meaning does not change from the name change.

You can also get there by gondola - a kind of walking "taxi" and one of the symbols of Venice. There is also a traghetto, a large gondola that transports across the Grand Canal.

If you need to go to the more distant islands of Venice, for example Burano, Murano, Lido di Venezia, Torcello, etc. (that is, the islands of the lagoon, which cannot be reached on foot), then you need to travel by vaporetto.

Vaporettos also run to Marco Polo Airport; as well as to Punta Sabbioni and Treporti, which are located on the same spit of the Venetian Riviera as Lido di Jesolo.

There are various types of tickets on the vaporetto (from 1 trip to a few days' travel) and there are many routes, including circular ones. There are many berths in the city, including near Santa Lucia Station, Rome Square and Tronchetto. We recommend that you decide in advance and if you continue to use the vaporetto, and not only get to the point you need (the hotel), then it may make sense to immediately purchase a ticket for a day or several days. There are also tickets for buses in Venice + vaporetto.
