Chiragan is a former Ottoman palace built between 1863 and 1872 by Sultan Abdul Aziz.
The palace with the adjacent park was built by the court architects of the Balyan dynasty, who sought to create Ottoman architecture in the direction of stylizing the European royal residences of the 18th century.
Sultan Abdulaziz did not live in this palace for long - he was found dead inside on May 30, 1876, shortly after his overthrow from the throne. His successor, his nephew Sultan Murad V, moved to the Chiragan Palace, but ruled for only 93 days, as he was deposed by his brother Abdul Hamid II due to alleged mental illness and lived in the palace under house arrest until his death on August 29, 1904.
In 1909, the first meetings of the Turkish parliament were held within the walls of the palace.
On January 19, 1910, a large fire destroyed the Chiragan Palace, leaving only the outer walls intact. Then the palace garden served as a football field for a long time
In 1987, the destroyed palace was bought by a Japanese corporation, which restored the palace and built a modern hotel complex next to it.
