During its history the Villa became so famous, with Grand banquets, arranged in its walls, that even today in the Italian language is the adjective "luculliano" pointing to a particularly abundant and delicious food;

In 1651 the Count D Onate bought the Palace of Carafa to accommodate troops. Since 1808, the building housed the library and the Military Topographical office of the Kingdom of the two Sicilies. After the Unification of Italy, the building became a military archive and currently, its walls are the military section of the State archive of Naples and the police.

Since the late nineteenth century the entrance to the barracks was moved to the top of the hill, the street Monte di dio (Via Monte di Dio).
