Karlova street in Prague (Karlova ulice) - tourist royal road in the city center

Karlova street (Karlova ulice) is one of the oldest, most beautiful, famous and most visited streets in Prague.

Charles Street runs in the heart of Prague - in the Old Town (Stare-Mesto / Staré Město), and connects A small square (Male naměstí) with the square of the Crusaders (Krzyzownica Square, Křižovnicke naměstí) at the famous Charles Bridge (Karlów most).

The street is named after King and Emperor Charles IV. The street was part of the so - called The Royal Way leading to Prague Castle (Pražský hrad), which today is a tourist route.

Part of the winding zigzag Karlova Street is a completely pedestrian zone.

Today, Charles Street is one of the most popular streets in the historical center of Prague. It intersects with other streets of Old Prague.

Buildings of various architectural styles stretch along the street, some of which are significant objects of Prague. In the buildings along the street there are shops, souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants and accommodation facilities (hotels, apartments)

Petting Palace or Unitaria Palace and the Yellow House (Pöttingský palác, Palác Unitaria, Žlutý dúm), which is a former Baroque palace on Karlova Street 186/8.

Today, the palace houses: the Theater Ta Fantastika (Divadlo Ta Fantastika), the Museum of the Czech Pomegranate (Muzeum Českého Granátu) and the religious society of Czech Unitarians (Náboženská společnost českých unitářú), which is also the owner of the building. The palace is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The house is decorated with stucco reliefs by Jan Oldrzych Mayer from 1713. In the middle, under the window of the third floor, in a gilded Palladium medallion, the lands of the Czech Republic are depicted, i.e. a half-figure of the Virgin Mary of Staroboleslav with Jesus on an eight-pointed star supported by a circle. Above the star is a pair of angels carrying a crown, under the star on the sides - a pair of crowned Czech lions; on the left - St. Wenceslaus, on the right - Jan Nepomutsky. Patrons are placed around the windows on the second floor: Saint Sebastian on the left, Saint Roch on the right. The Jesuit patrons are depicted on the upper floor: on the left - St. Ignatius, on the right - František Borgia. Above the window of the upper floor there is a relief of the lying patroness of the plague, Saint Rosalia.

The historic large complex Clementinum (Klementinum), the wall of which covers the north-western end of Charles Street, leading to the Crusaders Square.

Here is the common entrance portico of St. Clement's Cathedral (Katedrala sv. Klimenta, Clementinum catedral) and the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Clementinum, better known as the Italian Chapel, which was erected between 1590 and 1600 for Italian Catholics.

The Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace (Colloredo-Mansfeldský palác) is a historical palace building in the Baroque style and with a neo-Baroque facade.

The palace is one of the outstanding examples of Prague palace architecture and its interior can be visited.

The palace is part of the Gallery of the capital city of Prague (Galerie hlavního města Prahy).
