El Terreno is a small residential and tourist area belonging to the larger district - administrative area Ponent (Ponent), a part of Palma and the Western part of the Palm relative to the center of the coast.
From the South-West of the coast of El Terreno is bordered by the district Portopi, and the North-East with the area of son Armadams (Son Armadams), also forming part of Palma de Mallorca.
Distance from the centre of Palma (Palma Cathedral) to the area of El Terreno is 2.4 kilometers.
Original El Terreno emerged as a summer area for palmesano of the bourgeoisie in the late nineteenth - early twentieth centuries. This is favored by terrain slope towards the sea, granting beautiful views of the sea from houses and mansions, as well as the surrounding: the sea on one side and forest Park area Bosque de Bellver on the other.
Over time the area began to appear entertainment infrastructure, including restaurants, bars and nightlife. Then some private homes were destroyed, to be able to build multi-storey residential building. The district has undergone great changes in urban and social level. Not so long ago, along the area, parallel to the sea, was created promenade Paseo Maritimo.
Currently, the area of El Terreno has a rather modest size, lies in a narrow strip parallel to the sea. A favorite place for walks and recreation in the area is the promenade Paseo Maritimo promenade, along which, on the one hand is the Marina, and on the other - lined up in a row of buildings in which there are cafes and restaurants, shops and bars, as well as various accommodation facilities.
In the area of El Terreno, as well as in neighboring areas, no beaches. Along the sea is the port and the yacht area. The nearest beaches are Cala Mayor , with the homonymous beach of Cala Mayor beach and in the city centre of Palma Cana beach Pere Antoni.
Since the "birth" of El Terreno and currently the main area of the district is Gomila square (Plaça Gomila / plaza Gomila), which is considered small but compact centre of life of the area.
Near the sea and the promenade is a Park area that attracts visitors and locals who want to relax in the shade of the spreading crowns of the trees are Quarantena gardens (Jardins La Quarantena).
The Park was first opened to the public in 1970 and is located on the site where once stood the quarantine area (hence the name of the garden), which housed the travelers coming from places infected with contagious diseases. There are two access port to the old infirmary, the construction of which began in 1656, and today these inputs(outputs) are the gateway to the Park: the seafront and the square of Mediterranea (Mediterranean square / Plaça Mediterrania).
In the Park: alleys for walking, places for recreation and children's Playground.
Above the Park, on the coast, is an observation deck-area (Mirador Remigia Caubet) with Seating and views of the sea.

Above the Northern border of the district, on a hill 112 meters above sea level, surrounded by forest parkland is Bellver castle (Castell de Bellver) with a circular plan, a fortress in the Gothic style and built in the early fourteenth century by order of king Khaimah II.
Currently, the castle is a Museum of the history of the city, exhibitions, a café in the grounds that offer panoramic views.
From the area of El Terreno to the castle an easy walk along the forest trails, the distance from Gomila square is 650 metres away. On the way to the castle you can also visit the chapel of San Alonso rodríguez (Capilla de San Alonso Rodriguez) and, in General, walk in the Park Bosque Del Castillo De Bellver (Bosque Del Parque Del Castillo De Bellver).
